The surrounding hills provide a variety of hardy walks or gentle rambles to suit all tastes. Both spectacular views over the lake and shady coves can be reached by children and adults alike - with or without a guide.
April and May are ideal for walking as the climate is generally cooler, although the sun can still be strong. Spring shows Portugal at its prettiest - the hills are covered in a myriad display of colourful and aromatic wild flowers and herbs, including purple lavender, pink peonies, blue speedwell, pimpernel and many more. Bird song at this time is at its most varied, including cuckoos and nightingales. Moreover the lake nests herons, cormorants, eagles and falcons to name but a few. The secluded nature of the lake means no light pollution, revealing a sparkling sky, ideal for stargazing.
The temperature of the lake at this time of year is cool though still swimmable for the adventurous. However the calm nature of the lake makes it ideal for excursions on the pedal boat or on organised trips on the motor boat.
